Prohibition Signs

Prohibition signs are crucial visual communication tools used to convey actions or behaviours strictly prohibited within a specific area or environment. These signs effectively communicate to individuals the actions that must be avoided to prevent accidents, reduce risks, and maintain a safe environment. Prohibition signs, also known as prohibited signs or prohibitive signs, are typically characterised by a red circular background with a diagonal line across a black pictogram and a red border. 

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the UK emphasizes the importance of utilising prohibition signs to enforce specific restrictions in workplaces and public areas, ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals. In the UK workplace, prohibition signs are essential in areas with potential hazards, such as chemical storage facilities, restricted zones, or areas with high-voltage equipment. For example, the prohibited sign indicating no unauthorised entry must be displayed in areas with restricted access due to hazardous substances. Additionally, the prohibition sign prohibiting unauthorised personnel from accessing the area must be prominently visible in areas with the risk of electric shock. These signs play a crucial role in preventing accidents, maintaining security, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations enforced by the HSE.
